@Lou12: This is what the maintenance procedures manual says about the VW 2.0 TDI timing belt: Generally, it is not necessary to replace the belt before reaching the next replacement interval. In particular, cracks on the back side of the belt do not affect service life and cannot be claimed as goodwill or warranty measures.
An Audi A6 will cost about $9,252 for maintenance and repairs during its first 10 years of service. This beats the industry average for luxury sedan models by $2,709. There is also a 26.81% chance that an A6 will require a major repair during that time. This is 12.75% better than similar vehicles in this segment.
Some later VAG vehicles (up to circa 2009) introduced an 80,000 miles or 4/5 year replacement. Furthermore, later VAG vehicles are recorded in the service books as requiring a belt change at 115,000 miles! We only use Original Equipment Manufacturer belt kits which include the tensioners, any relay idlers, tensioning damper and the belt itself.
Location: Highlands, Scotland. Audi Model:: A4 B8 TDI Ultra. Audi Year: 2015. Posted July 14, 2020. Hey all, Just wanted to post a thread on my experience (still ongoing) regards a timing belt tensioner failure. I own a 2015 2.0tdi Ultra. 2010 Jetta TDI timing belt replacement. Just found out my belt will cost between $800 to $1,000 parts n labor at my dealership which sounds about right from what I've been reading on the subject. Also just had the ECM recall done and now I'm averaging 43 mpg city/highway combined burning 2% bio ultra low sulfur fuel.
Simply way to check them belt is to pull the cover off. Really simple to do. Make sure to change the tensioner with the belt. Highly recommend you do your drive belt at the same time. As for the water pump replacement, I still haven't done that. I'm up for my third belt in 5K miles, (210,000 miles) and I don't intend on replacing it.
I have just checked my service schedule and it only mentions the toothed belt on 1.9 TDI every 95k - 2.0TDI & 2.0 TFSI every 114k. No mention of the ancillary belt on the 2.7 & 3.0 TDI engines, so assume these don't get changed untill they break.
